In the late 1980's the Sexsmith business community decided to turn the slow economy around by looking to their past to guarantee the future. They examined the history of the community and using the historically designated backsmith shop as their focus, adopted a 1920's theme for the town. Vintage buildings were restored and more modern ones such as the Insurance Office, Royal Bank, Town Office have been changed to blend with that style and character. The street scape has been improved with theme lighting to compliment the project. The revitalization of the downtown was carried out to instill new life and spirit in the community in hopes that the downtown would again become the heart of the community. |
