Garbage Collection

Fridays, so please have your garbage cart out by 8:30 a.m.

Garbage collection is done by:

County Disposal (2000) Ltd.

and any garbage concerns must be addressed by calling them.

If you need to put out additional bags (for household garbage, grass clippings or garden refuse, maximum weight per bag of 25 kg.), tags may be purchased from the Town Office for $2 per tag per bag.

Curb side recycling

Curb side recycling will be picked up every week – alternating weeks for tin and plastic, and paper and fibre ((see calendar on home page).

Examples of what is recyclable:

Paper – all types including

Newspapers and inserts, magazines, catalogues

  • White writing and computer paper
  • Christmas cards, no-foil gift wrap
  • Junk mail, paper bags, envelopes, paper egg cartons, paper and hard cover books (remove hard cover), phone books

  • Metals (no loose lids, trap inside can or discard)

  • Clean tin cans (soup, juice, etc)
  • Aluminum cans (beverages)
  • Empty non-hazardous aerosol cans

    Plastics (discard caps and lids; empty and rinse)
    - Only plastic bags and containers numbered with a 1, 2, 4, or 5 can be recycled. The number can be found in a recycling triangle, often on the bottom of the container.

  • Household cleaner bottles
  • Shampoo and conditioner bottles (including similar personal care products)
  • Vinegar bottles Plastic bags (all types including bread and dry cleaner bags Pop and beverage bottles
  • Milk jugs
  • Detergent or fabric softener bottles
  • Margarine and yogurt containers
  • Ice cream pails (remove metal handle)
  • Vitamin bottles
  • Windshield washer containers
  • - If the plastic item does not have a number on it or is not one of the numbers above, it goes in the garbage not the recycling

    Curb side recycling must be in clear or clear blue bags and is limited to 3 bags per week.

    Cardboard recycling

    The cardboard recycle bin is located at the parking lot next to Sexsmith Kitchen.

    Please ensure your cardboard is clean, dry and flattened before recycling it. Remember to remove plastic liners from cracker or cereal boxes and ensure pizza boxes are completely empty and clean. Remove all STYROFOAM packing material.

    Costs to the residents will be $5.60 per month for the curbside recycling, including the cardboard bin downtown.

    Canadian Diabetes

    Also, 2 RED bins for CANADIAN DIABETES (clothing only) are located at the same site. Other household items may be picked up by calling (780) 402-2180.

    Landfill

    Sexsmith has joined as a partner with the Towns of Wembley and Beaverlodge, the Village of Hythe, and the County of Grande Prairie in the West County Grande Prairie Solid Waste Authority.

    Town residents may take any garbage "Free of Charge" to the

    located west on Emerson Trail to Range Road #9. (Approximately 32 kms. from Sexsmith)

    As an alternate, you may take your garbage to the Clairmont Landfill (2 miles west of Clairmont and 1 mile north). You will be charged a tipping fee of a minimum $5 and loads must be tarped. Hours of operation Tuesday Saturday, 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. phone 567-4194

    Another alternate may be Aquatera Landfill Site Grande Prairie (100 street, north of correction line road)
